Consular Officers use the information entered on the DS-160 to process the visa application and, combined with a personal interview, determine an applicant’s eligibility for a nonimmigrant visa. Form DS-160 is submitted electronically to the Department of State website via the Internet. Note: Any inquiries on completing the DS-160 will be addressed on this website. A DS-160 and barcode from a prior visa interview or drop-off service will be rejected and result in a delay of your visa application A new DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application form and associated barcode must be submitted with each and every new visa application.The emailed file will be in PDF format, which requires Adobe Acrobat to view or print. Once you have printed the barcode confirmation page, hit the "Back" button on your web browser and then email yourself a backup copy of the DS-160.The DS-160 page must be printed on letter or A4 paper in portrait format with a readable barcode.The printed confirmation page is required for the interview at the Embassy/Consulate. The completed DS-160 application form will generate an alpha-numeric barcode confirmation page.In order to use this function, you will need the alpha-numeric application ID provided at the time you started your application. If you need to exit the DS-160 to gather additional information before completing the form or if you receive an early "time out" or error during completion of the DS-160, you may retrieve or recover your partially completed DS-160 from the database by clicking "Retrieve Incomplete Information" and following the instructions.Detailed guidelines for taking and submitting a quality photograph are on the U.S. ![]()
